Special Events 2025

Richard Jordan

Speakers' Nights

Applewood will be hosting a series of speakers nights in the month of June 2025.  We have special packages if one chooses to attend three or more of the events.

June 5th Kristen den Hartog will talk about the wounded soldiers who returned after  World War 1 and the opening of a military hospital in 1919 near Christie and Dupont.  Her talk delves into the lives of this hospital's patients and staff and uses old letters, diaries, military service records and newspaper articles to explore how ordinary people dealt with the ways war had changed them, and how the medical community- and the city - grew by leaps and bounds in this fascinating period in Toronto history.

June 12th Richard Fiennes-Clinton of Muddy York Tours will talk about Frank William Micklethwaite, a nineteenth century photographer of the 1880's and 1890's who is credited with many of the early images of Toronto.

June 19th  Maureen Jennings, author of the Murdoch Mysteries - The Past as Prologue and what we can learn from history.  Focus on her latest series set in Toronto of 1936.

June 26th Historian Richard Jordan will talk about Hazel McCallion and the Mississauga train derailment.

Three events we will give a 10% discount cost $67.50
